On the other side of the lens

I wonder whose idea it was to close the one eye of the model with different objects? Photos like this are common. One eye is covered by a flower, branch, leaf, etc. Why? What creative problem is being solved? Does a trick like this reveal artistic intent? One can only guess. It’s probably a matter of taste, in the end. And perhaps I belong to those photographers for whom the eyes are a reflection of the soul, and the gaze is a reflection of thoughts.
